NDSM Werf Amsterdam
TwistR® structural fibres as the foundation for the tree and flower planters at the iconic NDSM Werf. Complete replacement of traditional steel reinforcement.
The project in detail.
At the iconic NDSM Werf in Amsterdam, the tree and flower planters were given a foundation reinforced with TwistR® structural fibres. By designing the concrete structure entirely around fibre reinforcement, traditional steel reinforcement could be omitted altogether.
What made this project special was the speed at which the switch was made: within two days the entire structure was recalculated for fibre reinforcement, including sign-off from the City of Amsterdam. This allowed the project to proceed without delay, while structural performance remained fully guaranteed.
The results speak for themselves: a net saving of 1,500 kg of steel reinforcement and a 98% CO₂ reduction on the reinforcement component — a striking example of a more sustainable, faster and more material-efficient alternative to conventional reinforcement.
