The project in detail.

In 2019, Schagen Infra, on behalf of the Municipality of Barneveld, renovated the cycle paths along the N344 between Voorthuizen and Garderen with a sustainable white topping solution. The existing asphalt structure was reused and fitted with a 12 cm thick concrete pavement reinforced with TwistR® fibres. This saved raw materials, reduced CO₂ emissions and delivered a low-maintenance pavement with a service life of more than 20 years.

Thanks to TwistR® fibre reinforcement, the required concrete thickness could be significantly reduced, resulting in savings on concrete consumption, transport movements and CO₂ emissions — without compromising on sustainability or service life. In total, 7,000 kg of TwistR HYBRID fibres were applied.

The result: around 2,500 tonnes of asphalt for disposal saved by reusing the existing structure, 1,900 tonnes of new concrete processed, roughly 25% savings on project costs, reduced CO₂ emissions and improved cycling comfort.
