N711 Roundabout Flevoland

For the renovation of the roundabout on the N711 Kamperhoekweg / Visvijverweg, Schagen Infra opted for AsphaltX®. The existing asphalt structure no longer met current requirements and was completely replaced with an asphalt mixture reinforced with AsphaltX® Twaron aramid fibres. This creates a structure that is better able to withstand heavy traffic loads, torsional forces and intensive use — ideally suited to roundabouts, junctions and heavily loaded roads.

Sustainability played an important role. In line with the circular ambitions of the Province of Flevoland and the contractor, a sustainable asphalt mixture was chosen with an MKI score (environmental cost indicator) of €8.50, reducing the environmental impact by around 70%. All machinery was run on 100% HVO diesel, cutting CO₂ emissions by around 90% compared to conventional diesel.

For this project, 1,585 tonnes of asphalt were processed and 400 kg of AsphaltX® fibres applied. The result: a future-proof roundabout with a longer service life, lower maintenance costs and a smaller environmental footprint.
