Road Reinforcement for Heavy Agricultural Traffic in Witmarsum

In 2018, a road in Witmarsum was constructed to accommodate the daily demands of heavy agricultural traffic. Due to the high traffic loads, aramid fibers were incorporated into the asphalt mix. These fibers were added to enhance resistance to cracking and rutting, thereby improving the overall durability and long-term performance of the pavement structure.

Several years after construction, the road's performance was evaluated. Based on discussions with the Municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, the findings have been highly positive. The municipality reports that the road remains in good condition and shows no significant signs of distress or abnormal deterioration. This confirms that the selected solution performs well under the demanding conditions created by heavy agricultural traffic.

This project demonstrates how the use of AsphaltX aramid fibers can contribute to extending the service life of asphalt pavements, reducing maintenance requirements, and creating a more sustainable infrastructure for roads subjected to intensive heavy-traffic use.
